The Parish Church is open daily from about 9 a.m. until about 4 p.m. in the winter and about 5 p.m. or later in the summer. The tower is currently closed for the winter season, but will re-open for the 2019 season on Monday 6th May. We also hope to open over the Easter weekend (20th and 22nd April) and we'll be able to confirm this a bit nearer the time.
We welcome visitors and those wanting a quiet space to think or pray. There is a service on Wednesday morning at 10.00 a.m. and Sunday services are at 9.00 a.m., 10.45 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. Access for visitors is limited during these times, although everyone is welcome at the services.
Tower opening hours are normally 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. on Saturday - except when the church is in use, or when the weather or other circumstances, make it unsafe to climb. The responsiblity for all such matters rests with the Stewards on duty and their decision is final. We make a small charge for climbing the tower: £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for children (5-17). There is no charge for under-fives. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The tower is about 50m (160 feet) high and, on a fine day, the view is magnificent. The steep, narrow, spiral stair has more than 170 stone steps and is the only means of access. The pictures give you an idea of what it's like, including the view and the steepness and narrowness of the stairs, to help you make a decision about whether to climb.
The tower or the church might have to be closed during bad weather; when school parties are visiting; when the church is being used for weddings, funerals or other services; or for other reasons. Please contact us to check before making a special journey.
